INGREDIENTS

 Imperial  METRIC

 
SERVINGS: 10-12 people
 
1/2 Cup Shortening
1 1/2 Cup Sugar

Mix well with a spoon. Then add the following ingredients:

2 Eggs
(2) 1 oz. Bottles of Red Food Coloring
1 teaspoon Cocoa

Mix the above ingredients together with a spoon.

Adding the rest of the ingredients with a mixer:

2 1/2 Cups Plain Flour (sifted)
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 Cup Buttermilk
1 teaspoon White Vinegar

For the icing:

1/2 Cup shortening (Crisco)
1/2 Cup or butter or margarine
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 Cup of sugar

Slowly add 3/4 cup of warm milk as you beat with mixer. Mix for 10 minutes til light and fluffy.


 
 
 
 
DIRECTIONS
 
~Pour into two 8 inch round cake pans
~Bake at 350ยบ F for 30 minutes.
~Remove both cakes from the oven and let cool for about ten minutes. Remove cakes from cake pan and let them cool completely. Once they are completely cool slice both through the center - making four layers.
Frost each layer.
